Although the most obvious suggestion for anyone attending a wedding is that women should not wear white so as to compete with the look of the bride, it's good to stay away from black dresses or sequined affairs during daylight weddings while more formal evening dresses are entirely appropriate for evening weddings. Don't worry about showing up at the wedding as a guest dressed in the same color as the bride's maids since it's likely the exact color will be a bit different anyway.
