One of the things to remember about commuting to work on a bicycle is the fact that it's much easier to find an alternative route that might have some cycling pathways and friendlier roads than to simply copy the same route that was used in a car situation. Lugging around some bicycle accessories while having to put up with traffic that might not be that friendly may be a mistake since the original route a person may have chosen was likely done so because it was the fastest way to get to work in a car, not to get to work in a bicycle.
